10th September 2007 - A Walk In The Park

After the altitude of the past few days, we today descended from way up high, back down through the Sargamartha National Park. It will be a very long day's walking. This is a stunningly beautiful alpine area of towering green pine river valleys and fast flowing glacial rivers. We passed through here on the way up and paths were washed out in places. With the trekking season just starting, the communities have been out in force repairing the routes to ensure that supplies and tourists alike can get to where needed. Despite this, in several places, we had to squeeze and scramble around rockfalls and landslides, opening to harily nasty drops!

We have stopped briefly on a peak to send this blog, but for the most part have been deep in the valleys. It was great to open up the team email and see so many people at home have been following progress and are as pleased we got the balloon up as we were! Thank You to the folk at Thales BGAN for mobile satellite communications! It can change the world for people in places like this!

Right now, we are all very wet, dirty and tired - but joking as much as ever! We are hoping to get to Lukla Airport to queue for a flight out of the mountains in the next couple of days. It could be longer, as thick cloud still envelopes the tiny airstrip. But we are hopeful. Tonight, we celebrate with our porters and Sherpa team. It could be an interesting cultural experience.... :)
